Reveille Coffeehouse Café has opened their first location in Florida here in The Villages®. Last Wednesday the newest coffeehouse café started serving breakfast, brunch and lunch. The menu includes a number of AHHH-MLETS, sweet deliciousness From The Griddle, Wake Up Call breakfasts, Salads and Sandwiches, The Mess Hall (from Daily Quiche to Biscuits & Gravy to Chicken Quesadilla or Shrimp & Grits and even The Kitchen Sink) and plenty of hot and cold beverages.
When I arrived on Saturday morning, there was a little bit of a line waiting to be seated. However, I was able to get a seat at the counter within a few minutes – dining alone can have its benefits. Plus, I got to chat with a fellow diner and make a new friend. In addition to the counter, they offer indoor and outdoor seating. Although they are still in training mode, I feel this spot will be a huge hit once they find their rhythm…see what I did there? In case you didn’t know, Reveille (rev-uh-lee) is a signal to get up and start the morning and in the military it’s a bugle call at sunrise to alert them for assembly.
The menu looked amazing to me, and I watched plenty of dishes going out to diners to help me decide. But I ended up with the Spinach and Bacon AHHH-MLET, which comes with an English muffin and potatoes or smoked gouda grits – I’m a grits kinda girl and these were amazing in my eyes. If you like spinach, bacon, sun-dried tomatoes and bleu cheese…this omelet is for you! I was tempted to order their Mystic Stuffed French Toast or Crème Brulee French Toast and the giant Cinnamon Swirl Cakes looked great too. I guess I’ll need to make another trip to satisfy my sweet tooth!
Reveille Coffeehouse Café is located in the Village of Marsh Bend at 2109 Everglades Lane in the Magnolia Plaza. They have several locations in Georgia and are family-owned and operated. Hours are 7am – 2pm daily. They don’t have a location-specific Facebook page, but you can follow their corporate page here or check out their website. They are also listed on our Restaurants tab and will include any daily or weekly specials if/when they become available.
Leave me a comment below if you’ve been there and tell me what you had.

Happy National Buttermilk Biscuit Day! Who knew such a thing existed? There is a special day for just about anything and everything! Do you tend to eat the foods on national “days”? I like to try and eat whatever day it is, when I know about them.
I remember my great grandmother making homemade buttermilk biscuits and grits when I was really young. The smell of homemade anything in her kitchen was always southern and delicious. Yummy! While I never got her recipe, making homemade biscuits require just the right balance of ingredients and bake time, and I don’t think she ever measured anything. With that in mind, luckily we have restaurant options here to find tender, buttery biscuits without making a mess in the kitchen.
Looking for a place to get your National Buttermilk Biscuit Day fix? Try one of these popular local favorites: The Flying Biscuit at Lake Sumter (my personal favorite), First Watch at either Trailwinds or on Bella Cruz, TooJay’s Deli-Bakery-Restaurant in Lake Sumter or Brownwood, Darrel’s Diner has multiple locations, and there’s Bob Evans and Cracker Barrel too (both are faves of my parents). Make sure to come back to Villager Eats to find the daily specials for dining and happy hour!

Don’t you love it when we get a new restaurant? I know I do! I was excited to visit The Back Porch Mulberry, not once but twice last week. Although they are still in a “soft opening” phase with limited hours, it was well worth it.
The Back Porch Mulberry is part of a small franchise with another location in Longwood and is very much welcomed in our neighborhood. The restaurant is an American sports bar/gastro pub with lots of indoor seating and of course lots of seating on the back porch too.
Both times we visited The Back Porch Mulberry we sat at the bar. The first time my friend and I enjoyed meeting new friends and sharing our excitement for something new in the north end of The Villages®. Jessica, Heather, and Darren took care of us behind the bar and did a fabulous job. To start off I had the Zoe Margarita, a yummy blend of pomegranate and margarita, and my friend enjoyed a traditional Margarita (or two). For my meal I had the Beef Tenderloin Sliders which are actually on the Apps & Snacks portion of the menu and were cooked and seasoned perfectly. My friend had the Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps which were also very good. We were even treated to some Bread Pudding for dessert, and it was equally delicious. Our new friends highly recommended The Classic Burger and Flank Steak Chimichurri for next time.
On my second trip I celebrated my birthday a day early with one of my girlfriends. Another Zoe Margarita started off the evening, and she had a Mint Chocolate Martini. Taking the advice from my previous visit, I ordered the Flank Steak Chimichurri w/Fries. Glad I followed up on the recommendation because boy, was it tasty! My friend had the amazing Beef Short Ribs – I’ll be getting those on my third trip. It was great meeting some of you on this visit and hope to meet more of you in the future! Let me know if you’ve been here yet and what you think.

While the menu is still somewhat limited, everything looks amazing. Currently their barbecue items are not available but I had the pleasure of meeting one of the managers, Melanie, and she tells me they will be coming soon. Another thing that will be coming soon is live entertainment out on the patio. Once the Grand Opening occurs, we will experience even more excitement, so stay tuned!
The Back Porch Mulberry is located at 8761 SE 165th Mulberry Ln, on the north end of The Villages. Their current hours are 3pm-8pm daily. Follow them on Facebook for updates, and make sure to check-in here for daily specials once they begin.

Hi Village Diners! You spoke (again) and I’m listening! So many of you asked to have the Restaurants tab listed by geographic location instead of in alphabetical order. Now the listing is so much easier to locate your favorite spots!
The new format is broken down in groups by Spanish Springs™ Town Square and 42 to 441 area, Lake Sumter Landing Market Square™ and 466 to 466A area, Brownwood Paddock Square™ and 466A to 44 area, South of 44, Country Club Restaurants, and Nearby Community Favorites (just outside of The Villages®).
I have also added a few more restaurants that weren’t previously included. The primary focus for Villager Eats is local restaurants, but there are some national franchises that offer daily specials which I decided to incorporate as well. If you have a favorite that Is not currently listed, please let me know and I’ll get them added. We have a few new spots that will be coming soon and I’ll make sure to let you know when they open.
CHEERS and HAPPY DINING!
