Ever have one of those days when you need a little pick-me-up to get out of a rut? I had one of those days yesterday and found myself at Mystic Ice Cream in Fruitland Park on the spur of the moment. And let me tell you if you haven’t been there yet…what are you waiting for?!

The minute I pulled up I could tell this place was different. This is not your typical ice cream parlor. Maybe it was the psychedelic tie-dye food truck parked outside, and it was definitely the cool vibes when you walk in the door. Miss Loretta greeted me at the door and was so kind and gracious to enlighten me on the various flavors. I was in awe. Alcohol in ice cream? Whaaat??

Mystic Ice Cream is all about the made-from-scratch, on the premises, adult frozen desserts. These alcohol-based ice creams are amazing! Anything from Mystic Slide, Kahlua Fudge Brownie, Pina Colada, to Margarita, White Russian, Grasshopper and more. When I stopped I enjoyed a cup of Cinnamon Roll Ice Cream which is made with vanilla ice cream, Fireball Whiskey and Rumchata. I was still tasting that cinnamon an hour later. Not into cocktails? Don’t worry, they have non-alcohol flavors as well. I bet my mom will like their Caramel Praline, Olde Time Vanilla, Red Velvet Cake or Butter Pecan. They have 30 flavors to choose from.

Vinyl records, vintage album covers, and eclectic knick knacks galore adorn the walls and tables. There are no two tables the same. There is not a traditional, boring ice cream freezer counter either. Sit down and chill out with your favorite flavor. And if you’re as lucky as I was, you can chat with the owner, Darrell Day. Darrell’s wit is quick, so you better pay attention. We chatted about how his wife, Lisa makes all the ice cream herself, and we found a common connection from Northeast Ohio (where I’m from). Did you know he’s a trained musician and has quite the background in opera and composition? He doesn’t really get a chance to grace his customers with opera, so instead he hosts Karaoke two nights a week.

Another unique aspect of Mystic Ice Cream is their fun nightly entertainment. Monday Funday, Tuesday Karaoke, Wednesday is Name That Tune, Thursday is Trivia, Friday is more Karaoke, Saturday is Game Show and Sundays feature occasional live music. The vibes are cool and remind me of a local spot back home where you can let your hair down and just have a great time with friends. I can’t wait to bring my crew back for some fun!
Mystic Ice Cream has three locations in our area: 1217 W. Miller Blvd., Fruitland Park; 314 W. Main St., Leesburg; and 38 E. Magnolia Ave., Eustis. Hours at all three stores are Sunday – Saturday 1:00pm – 9:00pm. And they can bring their delectable treats to your event in their tie-dyed food truck – check their website for the Magical Mystic Ice Cream Truck schedule.

In case you haven’t already heard…McGrady’s Pub is now open! This morning I traveled down to check it out and watch the progress of the new Sawgrass Grove area. I’m certain that the Villagers in the southern sections are ecstatic about having a new dining establishment in their neck of the woods!
Currently, McGrady’s is only open five days a week Wednesday through Sunday 3pm – 9pm. Their full 7-day schedule will be coming soon. Also coming soon is live music on the patio – watch for this around June 15th. I can’t wait to go back and enjoy the entire dining experience!

Here’s a look at their menu which features Scottish fare and of course, Scotch Whiskey.
Make sure to check back here on Villager Eats soon with my full review and look for daily and happy hour specials too. I’m so excited that McGrady’s Pub is now open for our dining pleasure!

Yesterday as I was running errands, I noticed Naldo’s Mexican Kitchen has re-opened! YAY! Of course, I stopped in and met with Alejandro who was so gracious to let me check out the new décor and menu so I could share it with all of you. So, if you saw my Facebook or Instagram posts, I was hinting about going to NEW old places. While Naldo’s has been here for a while, they remodeled and revamped the existing structure with updated, new festive features. Watch for the name to change soon also. Tequila Cantina will be the new name which is fitting for their extensive margarita and food selections.

When I first came in, I immediately noticed the new light fixtures. I love them! They really brightened up the dining room. Walking back to the bar area, I noticed the new modern design. I love it! Outside is the patio, which looks relatively the same as before and still a comfortable atmosphere.

What About The Menu?
After browsing over the new menu on my first stop, and knowing it was Taco Tuesday, I came back later with a friend to enjoy the 3 for $5 Tacos. Every Tuesday Naldo’s is offering three ground beef or chicken tacos for just $5. I opted for the chicken, and they were yummy. There are so many options you might expect, but we noticed a few authentic dishes that I haven’t seen at many other places here. You’ll just have to stop in to see what they are. They also have a special Lunch Menu that looks great.

While we were too late for Happy Hour, which is Monday through Friday 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., I still enjoyed one of their many margaritas – a Mango Margarita muddled with fresh fruit. MUY BUENO! Can I also tell you how fast and friendly our service was? Cesar did a fantastic job taking care of us! Our drinks and food were tableside in a matter of minutes.
Naldo’s Mexican Kitchen (soon to be Tequila Cantina) is located in the Southern Trace Plaza at 3551 Wedgwood Lane, The Villages. Hours are 11am-10pm every day, 7 days a week. Outdoor, covered patio dining is also available. Currently they do not have a website or social media, but you can reach them by calling (352) 633-2080 or watch for updates here on Villager Eats.

Have you heard? Redsauce and Glenview CC have a NEW Weekend Brunch! And it is AHH-MAZING! If you been looking for a great weekend brunch buffet, then look no further. Redsauce introduced their new buffet last weekend, and Glenview Champions Country Club began the previous weekend.

The minute I walked in the door last Sunday I could smell the deliciousness. My only regret was that I didn’t get there earlier, but that’s what happens when it’s a late night on Saturday. As soon as I sat down, I was greeted by Marc and given my first Mimosa. Making my way over to the buffet I couldn’t wait to see what they had on display. And quite honestly, I was a little skeptical of the pastries due to a previous experience at another establishment’s buffet but was pleasantly surprised by how fresh everything tasted. The bagels and whipped cream cheese were also plentiful. Next, were the salads…cucumber & feta, tomato & mozzarella, roasted red pepper, and the meats, cheeses and olives. I then passed through the chafing dishes filled with Biscuits & Gravy, Country Potatoes, Scrambled Cheesy Eggs, Bacon & Sausage, and Pancakes/Waffles/(and I think) French Toast (sticks? – I didn’t need the carbs, so I passed on those and not quite sure what all was in there.)
Perfectly placed underneath the Redsauce sign were the Carving and Omelette Stations. I had already filled my plate with the scrambled eggs and crispy bacon, so I passed on these this time. Trust me, when I go back again, I will make sure to head here first. Omelettes are made fresh to your order and the carving station has prime meats with aus ju, salsa and horsey sauce.

Save room for dessert. Just across from the stations was the dessert display. YUM! If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for dessert…I love to live the sweet life! Like I said earlier, my regret for getting there later was because the desserts were almost out. Cannoli and cake? Yes, please!
Did I mention the Mimosas yet? Not only did I enjoy one, but I enjoyed a second. Someone had to help finish off the tap. Bottomless Mimosas are included in the price…that alone is worth every penny!

Can you believe you get all of this for only $18.99 per person?! The food was fresh, delicious, and plentiful. I made two trips through the buffet line and like I said, Marc filled my glass twice. I’m looking forward to going again this weekend! Both Redsauce and Glenview Champions Country Club will be offering their Weekend Brunch Buffet every Saturday and Sunday from 9am – 2pm. Reservations and walk-ins are welcome. (please note the price has been edited 8/7/22)
Redsauce is located on the square at Lake Sumter Landing™ 1000 Canal Street. You can call for reservations (352) 750-2930 or order ahead for take-out. Hours are Monday-Friday 11am-9pm, Saturday & Sunday 9am-9pm.
